| Activity Name: | World March Celebration |
| Where: | Sacramento |
| When: | 12/4/2009 |
| Description: | Dear friends
A World March celebration on the Capitol Steps in Sacramento was tremendously inspiring and energizing - with about 150 participants including 37 local high school students. The program included music, poetry, dance, street theater, artwork, inspiring speakers, and a joyful, spirited march around the Capitol calling out "We Want Peace on Earth!" Our profound thanks to everyone who participated! A few particular thank yous: To Brent of the band "I the Mighty," who started things out with two beautiful and stirring songs that sounded like they must have been written just for the WM, (and whose new CD, We Speak, is coming out at the beginning of the year). Heartfelt thanks to all our inspiring presenters: Mary Wind of Teach Peace, Denese Schellink of Unity of Davis, Lamar Heystek of Davis City Council, and Lily Marie of the US Dept. of Peace Campaign. Enormous thanks to everyone from Woodland High School who devoted their whole day to this event: the dedicated Peer Mediators and several students from other programs, including four poets, artists who whose signs and artwork embellished the event, and the spectacular Tango Dancers. Big thank yous also to Peer Mediators Coordinator Merri Herman, Vice Principal Al Rolon, and film teacher David Bainer, who took the mysterious video camera (generously lent by a friend) and had one of his students make good use of it. The event was also documented on video by Davis Media Access; and by David Roberts, who took a battery of still photographs. Finally, huge thanks to Richard and Paula of World Without Wars for organizing the logistical nuts and bolts of the event - it couldn't have happened without you! For a peaceful, nonviolent and joyous future Trudi and Jorge |
